The Health Information Abstractor is accountable for entering and abstracting patient information.
Responsible for entering all ICD-9 and CPT coding for both in-patient and out-patient procedures.
Responsible for the abstraction of data from the patients health information.
Responsible for entering the abstracted data into the information system.
Selects charts and completes part of the review form as functions for Medical Records Committee.
Interacts with physicians to assure completion of charts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED equivalent with courses in
typing and computer basics
Must be able to type a minimum of 50 words per minute
Must possess the clerical perception necessary to proofread and to avoid errors in transposition; and
Previous health information experience.
POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess physical ability to endure prolonged sitting; moderate walking; lifting and carrying. May require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
