Staff Design Evaluation Engineer

The Instrumentation Business Unit at Analog Devices International is currently looking for an experienced Design Evaluation Engineer to join our team at ADI’s European Research and Development Centre in Limerick, Ireland. The engineer will work with the new product development team to characterize and test a wide range of high speed and precision signal chain products, using SOI, DMOS and MEMS processing, targeted toward Instrumentation and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) applications. The engineer will be working as part of a project team comprised of members from disciplines such as marketing, design, product, assembly, quality, wafer foundry and application engineering to bring a product concept to a released mass production solution. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual and fast learner with strong technical, analytical and communication skills.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Development of innovative hardware and software measurement solutions for bench evaluation of a range of integrated circuit products for Automated Test Equipment applications.
  • Lead the execution of the Design Evaluation Development Process including the development phases of Silicon Functionality, Sampling, Characterization and Correlation.
  • Works with Design Engineers in defining and developing measurement methods and plans and to fully evaluate new products.
  • Implement pre-tape out verification of solutions using Design Simulation tools, like LTSpice.
  • Define schematics and work with layout engineers in the design of Printed Circuit Boards hardware for bench setup measurements.
  • Carrying out bench top performance measurements and standard robustness tests to characterize device performance.
  • Analysing data to generate and present meaningful measurement reports.
  • Manage and maintain project schedules and costs that align with the product targets.
  • Support creating Market collateral through writing articles or proposing circuits from the lab (CFTL).
  • Participate in customer or training related visits (Travel 10%).

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in EE or ECE. Requires minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant and progressive experience with Semiconductor ICs with particular emphasis on mixed-signal bench testing.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to solve complex problems through design of appropriate experiments and analysis of complex data.
  • The ideal candidate would have wide experience with the evaluation of digital, analog and mixed signal devices and circuits.
  • Evidence of working with bench evaluation equipment (meter, oscilloscope, analysers) and developing bench top measurement systems would be required.
  • Application experience of software language ideally in LabView or C/C++/C#.
  • History of mixed signal PCB design and associated CAD/Simulation tools.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and in particular performing statistical data analysis using Excel or other data tools.
  • Strong teamwork, inter-personal and communication skills are essential coupled with demonstrated ability to work at a high level of performance both independently and in large multi-discipline development teams spanning multiple time zones.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to work aggressive schedules.
  • The ideal candidate would have strong experience with references, amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, analog circuits, power management, semiconductor IC processes, PCB design, CAD/Simulation tools and Software development.
