About this role

The Buyer is responsible for managing and executing the procurement processes for raw materials based on forecast and customer demand, ensuring timely and accurate material availability to support production needs. This role oversees the issuance of purchase orders to approved suppliers, monitors delivery performance, and maintains optimal inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the Planned Order Report to verify the demands of the current forecast.
  • Acquire materials in the required time, quantity, and manner.
  • Issue long-term and short-term releases for components based on the required standard pack or MOQ.
  • Release purchase orders only to approved suppliers.
  • Send purchase orders to suppliers via email and attach the corresponding confirmations.
  • Review purchase orders to ensure accuracy in quantities and pricing.
  • Maintain communication with suppliers—by phone or email—to follow up on purchase orders and delivery commitments.
  • Run the Discrete Job Shortage Report two weeks ahead to ensure required materials are available or in transit.
  • Review the Pending Receipt Report weekly to ensure there are no delays in material shipments.
  • Investigate any supplier-related delays and request expedited shipments, including providing tracking numbers.
  • When necessary, request special import services to ensure timely material arrival to the plant.
  • Analyze inventory using the Order Reschedule Report to determine which purchase orders must be expedited or rescheduled.
  • Coordinate new product introductions by ensuring raw materials are approved by Engineering and release blanket orders accordingly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor according to the company’s needs.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the position or similar.
  • Proficiency in Oracle (Purchasing Module).
  • Knowledge of MPS/MRP.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to control and manage inventory levels for raw materials.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English.
  • APICS/CPIM courses preferred.
