Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with vendor and contractor partners to develop and implement detailed design, configuration, and engineering strategies.
Provide solutions to resolve issues and incidents while remaining focused on security, up-time, and performance.
Provide troubleshooting and resolution to complex problems and issues.
Perform day to day data center engineering tasks including racking, stacking, cabling, labeling, and hardware installation for servers, storage, and network equipment.
Monitor and maintain environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and airflow to ensure compliance with operational standards.
Track, report, and proactively manage data center capacity—including power, space, and cooling thresholds.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe data center environment through routine inspections and housekeeping.
Execute cradle to grave hardware lifecycle management, including intake, validation, asset tagging, deployment, troubleshooting, and decommissioning.
Support new site buildouts, expansions, and commissioning of new racks, cages, or data center rooms.
Oversee and execute decommissioning activities for aging hardware, legacy racks, and retiring data center spaces.
Partner with cross functional teams (Network, Compute, Storage, Facilities, Security) to resolve issues efficiently and maintain operational excellence.
Respond to operational incidents and escalate as needed to minimize downtime and ensure SLA adherence.
Maintain documentation related to site layouts, rack elevations, inventory, cabling diagrams, and capacity data.
Willingness to travel to data center locations as required for operational support or projects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
5 years of progressively responsible engineering expertise within the subject matter domain.
5 years of implementation/architectural experience working as a Data Center Engineer, Hardware Technician, or Operations Engineer in a large‑scale environment.
Strong understanding of data center infrastructure (racks, PDUs, cabling standards, structured cabling, fiber/copper types, labeling practices).
Demonstrated ability to perform physical hardware tasks such as lifting equipment, racking/deracking servers, and installing components.
Knowledge of environmental controls (HVAC basics, temperature/humidity standards, hot/cold aisle containment concepts).
Basic troubleshooting skills for hardware, connectivity, and infrastructure issues.
Experience with asset management systems and hardware lifecycle practices.
Ability to follow detailed procedures, maintain accurate documentation, and operate in a process‑driven environment.
Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast‑moving operational setting.
Ability to work on-site in data centers, shifts and travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting data center buildouts, white‑space planning, and rack layout design.
Familiarity with power management concepts such as redundancy (N/N+1), load balancing, and PDU metering.
Knowledge of industry standards.
Exposure to incident, change, and problem management frameworks.
Strong understanding of change management processes, including assessing impacts, coordinating approvals, and implementing changes with minimal risk.
Hands‑on experience with ITSM platforms, preferably ServiceNow, for managing incidents, requests, tasks, and change workflows.
Experience using DCIM tools, with Nlyte strongly preferred, to manage inventory, track capacity, and maintain accurate rack-level documentation.
Experience working with enterprise hardware vendors (Dell, HPE, Cisco, Juniper, NetApp, etc.).
Understanding of capacity planning models for power, space, and cooling.
