About this role

Job Title: Associate Instructional Media Designer
Department: Office of Innovation & Transformation

Basic Functions: Works closely with the Instructional Designers to produce and edit video and interactive lecture assets for blended and online courses while maintaining a cohesive creative direction and quality standards for his/her online materials and other online education products. The Associate Instructional Media Specialist assists with additional video related work and responsibilities as needed. The successful candidate will need to provide graphic design for all course media productions.

 

1.      Duties Performed:

  • Provides multimedia support for the e-Learning development team and internal stakeholders.
  • Creates graphics, animations, videos, and interactive lectures for blended and online courses.
  • Conceptualizes, designs, and produces graphics demonstrating complex technical constructs and concepts.
  • Creates interactive or animated graphics, simulations and videos using a variety of tools, including the Adobe Creative Suite, HTML 5, 3D Studio Max, Articulate and others.
  • Develops course templates compliant with the Learning Management System.
  • Edits and processes media to variable formats (DVD, CD or data file) to be incorporated into the Learning Management System.
  • Produces high quality, engaging, and effective E-learning content in support of blended and online courses that meet SCORM and AICC compliance standards and sound instructional development principles.
  • Assists in live synchronous sessions if needed.
  • Ensures copyright clearance on all media obtained and produced.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested.

 

2.      Work Contacts:

Regular contacts with the Senior Learning Innovation Manager, IT-Academic Services Instructional Designers, Technical Media Coordinator, Instructional Media team and AUB faculty members.

 

3.      Independence of Operation:

Reports to the Senior Learning Innovation Manager. Works according to established on-line publishing procedures and policies.

 

4.      Supervisory Responsibility:

None. 

 

5.      Physical Effort:

Slight physical efforts involving walking, standing, handling and carrying lightweight, units approximately 10% of working time. Some effort required for carrying media equipment.

 

6.      Work Conditions:

Clean and pleasant.

 

7.      Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Media/Digital Production, Digital Design, Graphic Design, Media Arts or related field with at least three years of experience working in E-learning media production or related field or Technical Diploma in Media/Digital Production, Digital Design, Graphic Design, Media Arts or related field with at least five years of experience working in E-learning media production or related field.
  • A relevant portfolio of previous work demonstrating the needed skills to create interactive lectures.
  • Must demonstrate basic competency level and aptitude pertaining to each essential function outlined.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design.
  • Knowledge of the following software and applications is a must: Adobe Connect, Adobe Suite (including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, After Effects), Articulate Storyline or other interactive lecture creation software, Moodle and others.
  • Working technical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to production-level media production programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively remain current on the development and applications of state of the art production technology.
  • Proven ability to thrive and respond to frequent demands of multiple constituents, both internal and external, in a user-centric manner and high-demand environment.
  • User-focused: sees problems from the customer’s perspective.
  • High emphasis placed on professionalism, efficiency and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written knowledge of English as well as excellent presentation skills.
  • Well-organized, dedicated, accurate, thorough, and punctual, with meticulous attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Self-directed worker and creative problem solver. A high level of self-motivation, adaptability and integrity. Must have a high energy level.
