Job Summary

Takes the lead role, under minimal supervision in performing work activities and projects requiring technical knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

Job Description

This position is only available to current employees within the RSO East.

What You'll Do:

  • Enforce safety rules and procedures to assure safe work behaviors including an HPI advocate.  Assist in investigating accidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.   
  • Conduct thorough job briefings assuring Job Safety Analysis (JSA) specifies work scope, identifies potential hazards, and mitigates hazards.
  • Be knowledgeable and comply with the AEP Clearance Permit System and Plant Clearance Appendices.
  • Coordinates work activities of others within work groups, teams or those located externally to AEP including contractors, craft personnel, and vendors as required to resolve routine technical tasks and field work activities.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders in identifying, resolving, and initiating solutions to highly complex problems that are unique to AEP and the electric utility industry.  Including skills requiring specialized knowledge of equipment and/or problem-solving techniques.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of AEP policies, procedures, and guidelines to monitor and ensure work is performed in accordance.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement plans including scheduling, resource allocation, and cost information to control and address project outcome.
  • Understands the use of scheduling techniques for budgeting, planning activities and project execution.
  • Lead and facilitates meetings to ensure effective communication around project status, safety, schedule, etc.
  • Independently make technical decisions based on calculated risks.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement, business metric utilization, and strategic forecasting.
  • Participates in AEP and associated Contractor's meetings covering outage/project schedule, safety issues and operations and maintenance of equipment.
  • Develops and maintains rapport to assure cooperation and productive working relationships with Business Partners and customers.
  • Effectively manages conflict and builds consensus for agreement concerning business and/or work issues.
  • Clearly and concisely develops and presents or reviews reports with business partners and customers as needed.
  • Participates in providing training, performance improvements for projects and activities of lower-level employees or peers.
  • Become familiar with computer programs (Work Management System/Maximo, Microsoft tools, and scheduling tools).

What We're Looking For:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of experience in work activities and projects requiring technical knowledge in planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment.
  • or Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or college, plus < 1 yr. related work experience
  • or Associate's Technical degree, plus < 3 yrs. related work experience

Other Must Haves:

  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills backed by an enthusiastic approach and a diligent client focus.
  • Ability to interface and work well with different levels of individual contributors and management is required.
  • Experience in business unit operations and business acumen strongly preferred.
  • Is proactive in responsibilities and does not wait for direction from management to conduct work.
  • Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime, and shift work, as required to accomplish assigned tasks and meet project/outage requirements and schedules.
  • Demonstrates advanced abilities and aptitude for creativity and innovation while encouraging and developing the innovation of others.
  • Position requires working outside in all types of weather and exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Extensive travel required and possible relocation.
  • Physical demand level is; Medium

$98,993.00 - $128,688.00

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
