Job Summary
Perform work associated with the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of advanced protection and control systems and related equipment with minimal supervision. Such devices and equipment includes but is not limited to digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, Station Disturbance Recorders (SDR), digital fault recorders (DFR), event recorders, RTU's and station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers. Additionally, install, maintain and operate all power line carriers (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and associated P&C communications equipment. Respond to emergency call-outs and coordinate prompt restoration of service to customers as required. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. What You'll Do:
Commissioning:
AEP FACTS employees serve a key role during new projects assisting with the following: specification development, technical bid review/evaluation, design review, approve prints and other vendor documents, and commissioning the equipment in the field with support from local TFS.
Operation and Maintenance:
FACTS employees are responsible for assisting local TFS crews in conducting preventative and corrective maintenance.
This includes completing the annual work plan maintenance as well as field troubleshooting.
This position will serve as one of the FACTS engineers/technologists in the Western AEP footprint. Supporting FACTS devices in in and around the Laredo area.
The essential job functions for this position are listed below: Coordinate/Schedule the annual FACTS maintenance work plan
Provide on-site support and assistance necessary for the maintenance and repair of existing FACTS equipment
Develop maintenance plans, inspection reports, and other documentation to record the maintenance and repair activities of the FACTS fleet
Support AEP’s documentation plan and record keeping efforts as it relates to the FACTS/HVDC equipment
•Coordinate procurement of replacement parts and manage warranty and service contact issues with vendors
Provide on-site technical support and assistance necessary for the installation and commissioning of new FACTS equipment
Lead in the investigation and remediation of equipment failures and operating events to insure the reliability of FACTS equipment
Identify process improvement, asset renewal, and operational optimization plans for the existing FACTS devices
Assist in the evaluation and performance analysis of FACTS equipment • Support new FACTS project activities from project specification to final in-service operation.
Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company’s Corporate Compliance Policy.
Promote and enforce the Company’s Accident Prevention and Safety & Health Programs.
This position requires extensive travel. Travel is required to support the FACTS fleet, to meet with management and other stakeholders, to provide training to remotely located personnel (such as a dispatch center), and to meet with vendors. International travel may be required in order to work with overseas vendors.

a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Experience:
This is an entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree.
Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).Must be able to distinguish colors on a standard color blindness test.
Field Technologist (grade 6)
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or a
Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
Experience:
Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles.
Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
Field Technologist Sr (grade 7)
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or a
Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Experience:
Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles
Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT)

What You'll Get:
Field Technologist Assc (grade 5) - Salary Range: $68,000 - $80,000
Field Technologist (grade 6) - Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000
Field Technologist Sr (grade 7) - Salary Range: $88,000 - $110,000

$29.64 - $51.13The Physical Demand Level for this job is: L – Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 12 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5-6 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
