What Does a Retail Team Member Do Anyway?

  • Greet and interact with customers
  • Operate the register when needed
  • Help keep our sales floor clean and attractive to our customers

Position Title: Housekeeping Team Member 

Reports to: Retail Supervisor

Position Purpose and Objectives 

 

America’s Thrift Stores is currently seeking Housekeeping Team Members! We are looking for self-starters who are eager to join a company committed to partnering with charities to make a positive impact in our communities. Successful candidates will place a high priority on maintaining store cleanliness and delivering exceptional customer service. We are specifically seeking organized individuals who are self-motivated, excel in time management, and can adapt seamlessly to day-to-day responsibilities. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals to merge their passion for customer service with the opportunity to give back to their communities. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities 

 

  • Performs general cleaning and sanitizing tasks and services throughout store. 
  • Uses cleaning cart to transport cleaning supplies. 
  • Proper labeling and handling of all cleaning chemicals. 
  • Cleans and disinfects all restrooms, break room, sales floor, dock, and processing departments. 
  • Wipes and dusts all high-touch surfaces throughout the store. 
  • Sweeps and mops floors throughout store. 
  • Stocks paper towels and toilet paper in restrooms as needed.    
  • Picks up and empties trash containers. 
  • Notifies management if something is not working properly. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management. 

 

 

 

Skills and Qualifications 

 

  • High School Degree, GED or equivalent work experiences preferred. 
  • Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred. 
  • Able to understand and execute company policies and procedures. 
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the retail space. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong ability to prioritize. 
  • Able to accurately keep records and communicate progress to management. 
  • On the job training provided.

Physical Demands:  

  • Frequently - Carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 14-foot height, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling and smelling.  
  • Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, bending, feeling, and reaching waist/overhead level.  
  • Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, talking, seeing, and hearing.  

  

Other:  

  • Mostly regular and weekend hours, occasionally working evenings and holiday hours as needed.  
  • Working environment includes inside of building with semi- controlled temperatures and outside conditions with varying weather and temperatures.
