About The Position

 

The Supervising Engineer is responsible for the accuracy, maintenance, and support of the Relay database (PowerBase), especially the data required for NERC Compliance Maintenance activities. This position will be required to provide accurate supporting documentation for all FERC, NERC and SERC inquiries and audits. This position will be required to insure that all maintenance data is properly documented and retained in its proper database.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise, schedule, train and evaluate Relay Database Specialists/Engineers engaged in supporting the various Substation and Relay databases.
  • Develops various reporting tools and provides applicable data analysis to support the information needs of reliability programs and improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of compliance processes and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains database performance
  • Investigates and resolves intricate, difficult and complex database issues
  • Analyzes, resolves, and tests complex defects or improvements in the database
  • Provide documentation for any Compliance inquiries or audits.
  • Influences teams and stakeholders to achieve objectives; communicates how database administration work drives value for the business
  • Review periodically the integrity of the databases.
  • Support field personnel on all database software revisions.
  • Provide future year forecasts of Devices due (NERC and non-NERC).
  • Provide reports and/or data for Relay Maintenance, AIC Reliability, and various other entities, such as ICC inquiries/audits and other legal requests.
  • Monitors and enforces guides, procedures, and policies established by the Relay Database group, the AIC Compliance group, Ameren Corporation, and regulatory entities (FERC, NERC, SERC, ICC, etc)
  • Coordinate with outside entities such as Ameren Missouri and Ameren ATX Substation and Relay Maintenance, and vendors in order   to arrange a consistent process for compliance database management.
  • Track and report on monthly maintenance/construction progress.
  • Support Substation and Relay computer software and associated software keys.
  • Ensure all construction testing/commissioning documentation is complete. Provide regular updates to Primavera, PAUM, and Atlas.
  • Coaches direct reports, other co-workers and provides feedback to enhance skills and knowledge

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University is required. Five or more years of relevant engineering experience required (e.g. database, compliance, utility engineering, transmission or distribution operations, transmission planning, maintenance engineering, system protection, substation design, etc). Experience with PowerBase or equivalent databases required.

Experience with SQL is preferred. Experience or knowledge of Maximo, Enoserv’s PowerBase and Relay Testing System and various Doble Engineering software preferred. Five or more years Supervisory or team/project management experience preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

In-depth knowledge of database definition, structure, documentation, operational guidelines and security

In-depth understanding of relevant database software

Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies

In-depth knowledge of writing database queries and scripting languages

Knowledge of database procedural programming languages

Demonstrated ability with technical and software support. Knowledge of querying and manipulation of databases. Knowledge of NERC regulations governing the Transmission assets preferred. Ability to work effectively with conflicting priorities and stressful situations in a team-oriented environment required. Good leadership, administrative, communication, and human relations skills. The Supervising Engineer works a standard dayshift in an office environment but may also need to work off-hours for database support and other reasons. Proficiency will all standard Ameren office software required.

Compensation Range:

$131,900.00 - $204,400.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
