About the opportunity:

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to support the SZC Civil Works Programme by managing geotechnical risk, defining and endorsing geotechnical requirements, and ensuring designers and contractors comply with them. Reports to the Geotechnical Manager within the Engineering & Technical function.

Key Responsibilities - Oversee geotechnical aspects across the project, including:

  • Onshore/offshore ground investigations and site trials

  • Ground stabilisation and improvement

  • Earthworks: excavation, storage, blending, backfill

  • Groundwater control, dewatering, flood mitigation

  • Foundations, slopes, retaining structures, cut‑off walls, sea defence bunds

  • Road/rail works, wetland/SSSI ground protection

  • Offshore jetty and marine tunnel works

  • Tunnelling in sand and launch shaft grout blocks

  • Ground movement assessments near existing nuclear assets

  • Digital Ground Model development

  • Instrumentation and monitoring

  • Work across all civil scope areas: advance works, enabling works, Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Heat Sink, Marine and Tunnelling.

  • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders including designers (AtkinsRealis, Edvance-CNEPE-TEGG), Civil Works Delivery teams, Design Authority, and regulators.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Strong technical competency in geology and geotechnics.

  • Experience across concept, detailed design, and construction in earthworks, drainage, pavements, slopes, retaining structures, and foundations.

  • Understanding of UK design standards and multidisciplinary interfaces.

  • Effective communication across project teams, stakeholders, and regulators.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years in geotechnical engineering on multidisciplinary projects.

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.

  • Chartered (CGeol or MICE).

Desirable:

  • Exposure to nuclear projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C).

  • MSc/MEng/PhD in Ground Engineering/Geotechnics.Our Culture
