About this role

Join Amazon's Last Mile Delivery Automation Team!

Are you ready to build the cloud infrastructure that powers connected delivery vehicles? Join us in creating the systems that will enable safe, scalable automated delivery across Amazon's logistics network!

The Last Mile Delivery Automation organization is pioneering automated delivery solutions for Amazon Logistics (AMZL). Our Cloud Services & Operations Apps team builds the critical backend infrastructure that enables safe, scalable automated delivery operations - from semantic mapping pipelines to real-time fleet telemetry, from ODD management platforms to ML training infrastructure.

The challenge is fascinating: we're building systems that transform raw sensor data from vehicles into lane-level semantic maps, distribute real-time updates across fleets in under a minute, and provide operational visibility into thousands of connected delivery vehicles. Our platforms process TB-scale sensor data, coordinate multi-vehicle data collection, and power the ML pipelines that train perception models - all while maintaining Amazon's highest standards for safety and reliability.

As a Software Development Engineer on our Cloud Services & Operations Apps team, you'll build the backbone that enables automated delivery at scale. You'll create data pipelines that ingest and process multi-modal sensor data, develop mapping systems that fuse perception outputs into semantically-rich maps, and build operational tools that give engineers and operators real-time visibility into fleet health and performance.

What Makes This Role Exciting:

- Build Critical Infrastructure: Create the cloud systems that connected delivery vehicles depend on - mapping pipelines, telemetry platforms, ODD management, and fleet coordination services

- Work at the Intersection of ML and Systems: Build pipelines that transform perception model outputs into persistent semantic maps using transformer-based fusion algorithms

- Real-World Scale and Impact: Your systems will process sensor data from hundreds of vehicles, distribute map updates fleet-wide, and power the tools operators use to ensure safe automated delivery operations

- Greenfield Development: Help architect and build new systems from the ground up - mapping storage, data labeling platforms, ODD visualization tools, and ML training infrastructure

- End-to-End Ownership: Own complete systems from data ingestion to visualization, from offline batch processing to real-time streaming

Key job responsibilities
- Design and build data pipelines for ingesting and processing multi-modal sensor data from connected vehicle fleets
- Develop mapping systems that fuse perception outputs into lane-level semantic maps with spatial indexing and version control
- Build real-time telemetry platforms and visualization dashboards for fleet monitoring and system health
- Create operational tools that provide engineers and operators visibility into vehicle performance and data quality
- Collaborate with ML teams to build training infrastructure, data labeling platforms, and model deployment pipelines
- Own services end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations
- Contribute to technical design discussions and architecture decisions for greenfield systems Basic Qualifications: - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language Preferred Qualifications: - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
- Experience with geospatial data, mapping systems, or location-based services
- Experience with ML infrastructure (training pipelines, model serving, data labeling platforms)
- Familiarity with sensor data processing (camera, LiDAR, telemetry)
