About this role

JOB SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Director/Manager, the Peer Educator Educates youth on the effects of high-risk behaviors associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, violence and making healthy sexual choices. Provides diversity and equality education to youth. Empowers session participants to make healthy life choices. Works on average 6-10 hours per week.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

  1. To present to youth through interactive and educational sessions at local community sites 
  2. To attend staff meetings and ongoing trainings  
  3. To serve as a role model to youth  
  4. To uphold the overall mission and goals of Alternatives For Girls and abstain from violence and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
  5. Maintains confidentiality where applicable
  6. Other duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  1. Should be14 to 21 years old
  2. Should have a valid worker’s permit 
  3. Should have reliable transportation 
  4. Should have the ability to commit to attend assigned community site (at AFG or elsewhere)on a regular basis 
  5. Should have experience or be interested in learning about working with youth peers
  6. Should be able to work effectively with a team 
  7. Should have good facilitation and communication skills 
  8. Should be willing to bedrug free and uninvolved with gang activity

 

 

EDUCATION: 

 

  • At minimum should be in the ninth grade or higher, up to 21 years old.
