Job Overview

The Behavioral Health Specialist role is integrated within the Family Medicine Residency (FM) program at AltaMed and will utilize the primary care behavioral health delivery (PCBH) model.  The behaviorist will emphasize evidence-based, integrated educational and clinical practice as part of primary care patients’ physical and emotional health needs by employing a team-based care approach to enhance the care of residents’ patients, as well as the training of residents.  The behaviorist will address the challenges of providing effective family medicine care for vulnerable populations and engage residents on topics and skills to address social determinants, mental health conditions, utilization of proper evidenced-based screening tools, knowledge of effective evidence-based behavioral health treatments, crisis intervention skills, creating effective patient-centered care plans, and resident self-care.   Primary duties include the supervision of family medicine residents in behavioral medicine within the PCBH consultation model at the AltaMed South Gate clinic. The behaviorist will facilitate behavioral science curriculum development and teaching for the FM residency including, but not limited to, conducting Balint /support Groups and an integrated PCBH rotation for residents; completing resident training evaluations, and providing timely and constructive feedback to residents about patient-provider style and interaction (including two observed and evaluated interactions per resident annually). The behaviorist will have appropriate time to succeed in both their clinical and academic roles, with specific time dedicated to patient care, clinical teaching, wellness coaching, supervision of learners on rotation, and protected time dedicated to academic and administrative work.

Minimum Requirements

  • A doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology or social work (LCSW) from an accredited program is required. 
  • Completion of a clinical internship/residency appropriate for the field of study (such as an internship/residency in clinical and/or counseling psychology/social work). 
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in providing integrated behavioral health services using the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model required. 
  • Experience working in an academic setting is preferred. 
  • Knowledgeable of current medical staff self-care and resiliency models of care. 
  • Clinically active, working in direct patient care and/or the supervision of patient care.

Compensation

$113,684.36 - $142,105.45 annually
