Senior Developer

About the Role
The Senior Developer in the GEL Department will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and optimization of the GEL Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and related applications. Working closely with Business Analysts, IT, laboratory staff, and external vendors, the Senior Developer will ensure that technology solutions align with business needs, support operational excellence, and comply with regulatory requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:


1. Application Development & Design

  • Lead the design and development of LIMS modules, integrations, and custom features.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Ensure coding standards, best practices, and security protocols are followed.


2. System Integration & Data Management

  • Develop and maintain APIs, data pipelines, and system interfaces.
  • Support integration of LIMS with laboratory instruments and enterprise systems.
  • Oversee data migration, transformation, and quality assurance processes.


3. Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and guide junior developers and technical staff.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA, and laboratory stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Provide technical input on architecture, design, and long-term system improvements.


4. Testing, Validation & Support

  • Develop and execute unit and integration tests.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide third-level support for escalated incidents.


5. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, workflows, and release notes.
  • Ensure systems and processes meet audit, regulatory, and data integrity standards.


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift or carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 7.5 hours per day.
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance.
  • Manual dexterity to do repetitive tasks such as data entry

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, preferably in laboratory informatics or enterprise systems.
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python, or similar) and database technologies (SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Experience with LIMS development, configuration, or similar laboratory/ERP systems strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of system integration, APIs, and data management.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead projects, mentor team members, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be available for occasional travel (3–4 weeks per year).
