About this role

At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.

When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.

About the Position:

This is an initial 6-month contract with possibility of extension.

This role supports the Technical Services Manager in coordinating and executing laboratory automation, robotics, and innovation initiatives across the ALS Geochemistry lab network. It focuses on scaling pilots into repeatable, site-ready deployments through planning, stakeholder coordination, documentation, training, and go-live support. While strong operational and technical skills are required, the role is not the primary engineering authority. It involves facilitating cross-functional meetings, driving alignment, and proactively removing barriers to ensure timely implementation and deliverables.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation and rollout of automation/robotics and other innovation initiatives across the lab network;

  • Work with key stakeholders (site operations, subject matter experts, vendors and support functions) to align on scope, readiness requirements, timelines and responsibilities;

  • Participate in and facilitate project meetings (technical, operational, vendor, and site readiness) as required; prepare agendas, provide status updates, capture minutes, and track action items/decisions to closure;

  • Build and maintain implementation plans, schedules, trackers and go-live checklists to support site readiness and delivery;

  • Drive day-to-day execution of assigned initiatives by proactively following up on open items, removing roadblocks, and escalating issues early to maintain momentum;

  • Apply project management fundamentals to assigned deployments (scope definition, scheduling, resourcing, stakeholder communications, and change impacts);

  • Maintain RAID and decision logs (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) and ensure owners and due dates are assigned and met;

  • Support deployments and go-lives by triaging issues, coordinating resources, and documenting outcomes and lessons learned;

  • Coordinate handover to operations at go-live (readiness sign-off, documentation/training completion, support plan, and post-go-live review);

  • Contribute implementation input to projects in development (requirements gathering, workflow mapping, deployment design considerations, and operational readiness planning) to ensure solutions are scalable and site-ready;

  • Create and maintain reusable implementation “deployment kits” (checklists, training aids, basic troubleshooting guides);

  • Support preparation and coordination of training and site communications for new deployments;

  • Support continuous improvement of ongoing deployments by gathering site feedback, identifying improvement opportunities, and coordinating refinements with SMEs/engineering/vendor partners;

  • Leverage familiarity with ALS lab workflows and GEMS/LIMS to anticipate and support impacts to sample flow, traceability and reporting;

  • Use appropriate tools to track adoption/performance indicators (where available) and summarize rollout results;

  • Support method deployment and equipment standardization activities through coordination of readiness, documentation/training inputs and handover materials as defined by SMEs;

  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and follow-through; ability to manage multiple concurrent implementations;

  • Technical fluency with automation/robotics and engineered systems concepts without requiring deep design expertise;

  • High initiative and accountability; able to work independently, prioritize effectively, and drive action without needing close supervision;

  • Working knowledge of project management practices (planning, scheduling, stakeholder management, and risk/issue tracking);

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent computer skills including MS Excel and MS Word (Teams/SharePoint preferred);

  • Ability to systematically analyze information, triage issues and escalate effectively;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a technical field (science, engineering technology, automation/controls, or related) or equivalent relevant experience;

  • Experience in laboratory operations, technical services, implementation/rollout coordination, continuous improvement, and/or automation support;

  • Willingness to travel to support network implementations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ALS experience considered a strong asset; familiarity with GEMS/LIMS workflows preferred;

  • Experience supporting automation/robotics deployments and preparing practical work instructions/checklists/training materials.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time;

  • Position will require you to work with a computer for a majority of the day;

  • Ability to occasionally work in laboratory areas and around equipment/automation cells while wearing designated PPE.

Our Benefits Include

  • An estimated hourly pay of $33.92 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.

  • Comprehensive benefit package specific to your work status (including extended medical, dental, and vision coverage, access to company perks, life and disability insurance, retirement plan with company match, employee assistance and wellness programs)

  • Additional vacation days for years of service

  • Business support for education or training after 9 months with the company

  • Learning & development opportunities (unlimited access to e-learnings and more)

Please note: Benefits vary based on employee status.
