About the Position

Independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples, fusion, and cupellation.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion;

  • Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools;

  • Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;

  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete;

  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods;

  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills;

  • Organized and highly motivated individual;

  • Detail-oriented individual;

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;

  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time-critical issues;

  • Basic English communication skills

  • Safety oriented.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of High School Education required.

  • Diploma or Degree in Science preferred.

  • Laboratory experience in a production-oriented environment would be an asset.

Physical Demands

  • Able to lift up to 50lbs;

  • Able to work within a hot and dusty environment;

  • Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements: 

  • Be clean-shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator);

  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;

  • Shower before the end of each shift;

  • Undergo a lead blood test required every six months;

  • Able to stand for a full shift;

  • Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;

  • Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;

  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work, including weekends.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $23.45 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
