Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Flood Underwriter to evaluate, price, and manage flood insurance risks across a diverse portfolio.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze complex data, exposures, and coverage structures to make informed underwriting decisions.

This role requires balancing risk appetite with profitability while providing high-level service to internal teams and external partners.

  • Evaluate and underwrite flood insurance submissions in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and regulatory requirements
  • Apply critical thinking and analytical reasoning to assess flood risk, including property characteristics, flood zones, elevation data, loss history, and catastrophe modeling
  • Interpret flood maps, elevation certificates, engineering reports, and third-party data to identify risk factors and coverage implications
  • Make independent underwriting decisions, including pricing, coverage terms, limits, deductibles, and exclusions
  • Identify potential accumulation and aggregation concerns and escalate complex risks as needed
  • Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to clarify exposure details and negotiate terms
  • Maintain accurate documentation of underwriting decisions and rationale
  • Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, and market conditions to recommend underwriting adjustments
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, internal controls, and underwriting standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting guidelines, processes, and risk selection strategies

Compensation

Base compensation offered for this role is $53,500 to $77,800 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
