Allstate Insurance Company, a Fortune 100 organization, is home to one of the nation’s largest and most sophisticated in‑house legal departments. We are currently seeking Summer Law Clerk candidates to join our Law & Regulation Department.

Allstate’s summer law clerk program is a paid, ten-week hybrid experience. This position is based in Allstate’s Washington, D.C. Federal Affairs Office, where law clerks will work onsite 2–3 days per week. Travel to Allstate’s Chicago offices will be required. The clerkship offers summer law clerks the opportunity to work with multiple divisions within the department, including Global Litigation, Employment Law, Business Law, Compliance, Corporate Law, and Government and Industry Relations. Allstate’s Law & Regulation Department operates under a clear structure, giving law clerks visibility into how legal work directly supports business growth and risk mitigation. 

A summer law clerk’s responsibilities include legal research, preparation of legal memoranda, and oral presentations under the supervision of a licensed Allstate attorney. Law Clerks will be paired with a dedicated attorney-mentor and will participate in structured programming that highlights how the department executes its legal and strategic goals. They may also observe internal strategy sessions, and business-unit briefings. Law Clerks in the D.C. office will also have opportunities to engage directly with federal and state lawmakers, observe policy development, and support federal affairs initiatives. 

The salary is competitive, and the position begins in early June 2026. Ideal candidates should have outstanding research and writing skills, along with effective oral communication skills. Allstate is looking for students to join us after successfully completing their first year of law school (Rising 2Ls) who demonstrate change agility and embrace cross-functional collaboration, and innovation. Law clerks will gain exposure to initiatives aligned with Law & Regulation’s enterprise-wide goals, including innovation in legal operations, AI and data analytics integration, legal system abuse mitigation efforts, climate-related strategies, and cross-functional business partnerships. Students interested in government affairs, corporate practice, complex litigation, regulatory policy, and legal innovation are strongly encouraged to apply. This role is particularly well suited for students with an interest in government affairs, public policy, or the intersection of law and legislative advocacy. Law school transcripts are required. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is expected, along with demonstrated excellence in research, writing, and analytical skills.
