Job Description

The Locksmith is responsible for the installation, repair, remodeling, and maintenance of manual and automated locks, locking systems and security devices, computerized access control systems, door openers, closers, and hardware. The Locksmith will be maintaining an effective inventory with readily available supplies used in fulfilling customer requests in a timely manner.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Those duties necessary to meet the minimum requirements of the position.  Other duties may be assigned:

 

  • Engage in the performance of all phases of locksmith work, including but not limited to the maintenance of mechanical and electronic locks
  • Install and maintains locking system, including but not limited to mechanical locks, electronic locks, computerized locks, and access systems Manage activities and requests from external auditors during annual audit examination
  • Aid in the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date electronic records of all locking devices and keys in use on the facility to include pertinent information on personnel to whom keys are issued Train senior and staff accountants as appropriate, to ensure that accounting team activities are completed accurately in a timely manner
  • Maintain electronic locks and the user databases needed to operate the locks and maintain access control, programming, and repair of Card Access Control Systems
  • Diagnose problems that arise from inoperable mechanisms on outside/inside doors, card access controllers, and card swipe pads; investigate communication problems involving computer modems; installs electronic magnets on perimeter doors and maintains the wiring and power supplies that control them
  • Develop and carry out preventive maintenance schedules and applies them to the activities of the locksmith office as directed
  • Create requisitions; maintain responsibility of the equipment, materials, tools, and supplies necessary for proper installation; maintenance and repair of locking mechanisms
  • Submit written recommendations and reports as required and performs other duties as assigned

Formal Education, Licenses, and Certifications Required:

 

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a General Service Administration (GSA) certified locksmith
  • Must possess certification in each of the following:
    • OSHA 10
    • Basic Locksmithing Certification
    • GSA Lock, Vault and Container Inspector
    • GAS Lock, Vault and Container Technician
    • Kaba Ilco Mechanical Safe Lock Servicing Group 2 locks
    • Electronic Safe Lock Servicing by Sargent & Greenleaf
    • Electronic Safe Lock Servicing by La Gard
    • Lockmaster’s Safe Lock Servicing
    • Globaloks Factory Training
    • Installation & Operation of the X-09lock by Kaba
    • Mechanical Lock Course of Instruction, Sargent & Greenleaf (Mechanical Group 1, 1R and Group 2 Lock Certification)
    • La Gard (Mechanical Lock Course of Instruction Group 1 & 1R Certification Program)
    • Hamilton Products Group, Hamilton General Services Administration (GSA) Containers
    • Certified Lockmasters LKM7000 Technician
    • Kaba Certificate of Achievement, E-PLEX 5000 Series Locks
    • Securitron Factory Training Program (Mag Locks)

 

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required:

 

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in providing locksmith services

 

Knowledge and Skills Required:

 

  • Proficient knowledge of each of the following:
    • UNICAN mechanical and E-Plex locks
    • Swipe electronic locks, (i.e., T3000 Series)
    • Mechanical and electronic Group 1 and 1R General Services Administration (GSA) container locks
    • Sergeant, Yale, Schlage & Primus, Crobin-Ruswin, and Corbin Russin - Mortise and Cylindrical locks
    • Sargent – Mortise (also electrified) and Cylindrical Schlage Primus - Cylindrical locks with removable cores
    • Alarm Lock Trilogy series (2700; 2800; 3000; 3075) audit trail locks
    • Kaba E-Plex (5000) series audit trail locks
    • Sargent and Greenleaf (8400 & 8500) series safe/container locks
    • AMSEC ELS 10 series safe locks
    • LaGard LG series safe locks
    • Mas Hamilton X-07; XO8
    • Kaba Mas XO-9
    • Kaba IIco mechanical cipher locks (L-1000 & 5000 series locks)
    • Kaba IIco (Solitaire 700 series magnetic stripe cardkey locks)
    • Pad locks, file cabinet locks, Adams Rite locks
    • Systems furniture

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT:

 

  • Office environment with little to no exposure to extreme heat or cold
  • Major activities include working on PC while sitting, walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing
  • Physical effort is limited, to include some standing, bending, light lifting, and limited stretching and reaching
  • Must be able to submit to drug screening to the extent permissible by law
