About this role

Alleghany Highlands Community Services provides services and support to individuals in our community with behavioral health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Employee works as a team member providing person-centered active treatment and care for adults with developmental disabilities and related disabilities including physical disabilities, autism and sensory impairments located at our Merryfield Residence.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of education requirements for a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with a valid RN or LPN license to practice in VA (required)
  • One year of nursing experience
  • Valid driver's license and meet requirements of motor vehicle check, drug/alcohol testing and child abuse/neglect with the Va. Dept. of Social Services (required)
  • Experience working with individuals having intellectual or developmental disabilities (preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The nurse is responsible for directing and providing the medical component of the ICF/IID services.
  • The position requires coordination, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of health care services for nine individuals to assure complete integration with other services and the provision of active treatment.
  • The nurse is a member of the ICF/IID Services Interdisciplinary team, providing training and direction to staff.
  • The nurse works collaboratively with the Medical Director but is also expected to work independently with a high degree of accuracy, initiative, confidentiality and decision-making skills.
  • The nurse will conduct medication administration pass audits and other audits at Merryfield ICF/IID and other locations within AHCS.

AHCS is committed to preventing the occurrence of these conditions through an integrated community-based system of care. AHCS is committed to being responsive to individual needs and choices. Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) began in 1983 and is one of forty Community Services Boards and Behavioral Health Authorities established under the Code of Virginia to provide comprehensive services to individuals who have mental health disorders, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders. As the publicly funded safety net for service delivery, we must continuously monitor and evaluate our cost for services as well as the effectiveness of what we do. AHCS operates multiple service sites throughout the Alleghany Highlands, with over 150 employees working to support our services. We are proud to have served our community for 37 years. AHCSB is accountable to and licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) for the quality of care and fiscal accountability of the programs under its jurisdiction.
AHCS is governed by a nine-person all-volunteer board appointed with members from each jurisdiction by local governing bodies – Alleghany County, Clifton Forge and the City of Covington. The Board members are people from the community with various occupations and interests who serve three-year terms of office.
