POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Sr. Associate I, Accounting & Reporting (Professional Path), is primarily responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records by calculating, posting, verifying, and reconciling transactions in line with standards. You will perform specialized tasks, conduct independent research, and contribute to project goals with your advanced skills. Specifics include:

• Perform calculations and post financial transactions to the ledger
• Verify data accuracy and reconcile accounts
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and variance analyses
• Review transactions for compliance with accounting standards and maintain compliance with accounting policies and regulations
• Support audits by providing accurate and complete financial data

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Delivery

  • Operational oversight to provide services at expected levels with a clear customer focus, including handling the exceptions. Provides functional guidance to the team members. Interacts proactively within FSC and with Divisions to ensure accurate accounting, and financial reporting. Resolve all escalated issues and disputes.

  • Collaborates with key external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities / auditors.

  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for related policies and processes.

  • Actively initiate and participate in system improvements to sustain a highly effective and efficient process and realize cost reduction opportunities including areas to standardize processes to optimize investments made in global ERP/SAP systems and financial services.

  • Support the measurement and delivery of service levels in line with defined SLA / KPI targets.

  • Proactively challenge the Status Quo, making fact based recommendations.

Manage day-to-day activities:

GL Accounting

  • Maintenance of General Ledger master data, review manual journal entries, manage balance sheet account reconciliations process of all balance sheet accounts, ensure proper accounting of financial transactions, accounting specific questions are well addressed and solved (with escalations to Technical Accounting if required), actively review accounts, perform variance analysis and manage period-end closing and reporting in accordance with local laws and Alcon required standards.

Inventory

  • Manage costing run, review and calculate provision for inventory obsolescence, manage balance sheet account reconciliation of all inventory accounts, ensure proper accounting of financial transactions, accounting specific questions are well addressed and solved (with escalations to Technical Accounting if required), actively review accounts, perform variance analysis and manage the period-end review and presentation of Inventory balance to stakeholders.

Reporting/Systems

  • Act as super user for SAP and accounting (accruals, depreciation, period lock), ensure that figures reported are correct and ensure close collaboration with key stakeholders, support BPA and FSC in technical and appliance questions, ensure proper master data maintenance, supervise for master data maintenance and proactively challenge the Status Quo, making fact-based recommendations while working closely with ERP Support

Compliance

  • Ensure all processes, policies and procedures are clearly defined, fully documented, in line with Alcon standards and consistent with best practices as well as aligned with the Global Blueprint (when applicable)

  • Ensure compliance with Alcon Accounting Manual, Alcon Financial Controls Manual and regulatory requirements and implementation in internal guidelines.

  • Ensure application of agreed Alcon control procedures and actively support to deliver SOX certification.

  • Promote a strong and control environment and follow up on audit issues and implement correcting measures.

People Management

  • Actively support AGS KL working style by being inclusive, proactive, respectful, and results driven in alignment with Alcon Values and Behaviors

  • Act service oriented to enable service lines to deliver a high-performing organization and drive improvement/standard solutions while cultivating customer service focus culture.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Candidate must possess at least a university degree in Accounting/Finance and Chartered Accountant/CA/CPA/ MBA desirable, ACCA, MIA

  • 4-6 years of Finance experience, with in-depth functional expertise

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-national, matrix organization.

  • Previous experience working in Shared Finance Services

  • SAP / JDE knowledge

  • Good people skills
