The SICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care for critically ill surgical patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This role involves managing high-acuity patients, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring continuity of care across all phases of critical illness.

Salary Range: $52,058- $60,734

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform daily SICU rounds and actively participate in multidisciplinary discussions.
  • Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for critically ill patients.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based care plans in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests and imaging.
  • Perform and assist with bedside procedures (e.g., arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, thoracentesis).
  • Manage ventilators and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure seamless transitions of care.
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Respond to emergent situations and provide rapid assessment and intervention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members regarding care plans and prognosis.
  • Participate in hand-offs and care coordination meetings.
  • Support education, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the SICU.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA or ANCC/AANP).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; ATLS preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in critical care or surgical ICU preferred; new graduates with strong ICU training may be considered.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Strong communication, procedural, and decision-making skills.
