Position Overview

We are seeking a Construction Technician to support the AKIRA Construction & Facilities team with store openings, rebuilds, and ongoing maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will possess basic construction skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in new store openings and rebuilds, including: Sanding, painting, cutting, and building in-store fixtures
  • Installing appliances and equipment at store locations
  • Transport materials to and from job sites
  • Support skilled trades (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons) as needed
  • Operate hand tools and power tools (saws, drills, etc.) safely and effectively
  • Perform equipment inspections and routine maintenance on tools
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow all safety protocols and company guidelines
  • Travel to various Chicagoland locations and occasionally out of state
  • Respond to urgent facilities needs outside of standard business hours (occasional nights and weekends)

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Full-time availability (40+ hours/week)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders
  • Willingness to travel as required
  • Strong adherence to safety practices and attention to detail

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Basic construction knowledge and hands-on experience
  • Proficient with hand and power tools
  • Woodworking, carpentry, and fixture building skills a plus
  • Basic technical proficiency (email, Zendesk ticketing, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings
  • Responsive, team-oriented, and adaptable to shifting priorities
  • Flexible availability and willingness to respond to urgent needs outside typical hours

Job Type: Full Time

At AKIRA, we are committed to fair and transparent compensation practices. The starting pay range for this position is $17.00 an hour, based on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation and benefits may also apply and will be discussed during the hiring process.
