Responsibilities

  • Performs duties as an unarmed male detention officer related to detention, searching of male detainees, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract.
  • Exercises surveillance and control over male detainees and maintains order and discipline.
  • Attends to male housing units, feeding, lavatories and the physical well-being of detainees, 24 hours a day.
  • Makes official entries in the assigned post logbooks that are legible and complete. 
  • Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility. 
  • Provides care, custody and control of detainees. 
  • Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures. 
  • Guard's detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care and when and other duties as assigned. 
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies. 
  • Successfully completes all assigned training including defensive tactics and course requiring a minimum physical stamina. 
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures. 
  • Conducts a security and sanitation check of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer. 
  • Inventories all equipment and notates the results in the logbook. 
  • Receives all authorized equipment and ensures that it is in proper working condition. 
  • Ensures that your communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery. 
  • Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.

Qualifications

  • US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence.
  • Must have resided in the U.S. for the last five years and must maintain current/physical residency in the continental United States.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). 
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree desired.
  • A minimum of 1 year of security, law enforcement or military experience 
  • Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record). 
  • Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance. 
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English. 
  • Pass a medical examination, all pre-employment/random drug tests, and meet health requirements.
  • Male requirement in order to performs duties as an unarmed male detention officer related to detention, searching of male detainees, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract 
  • Possess a valid state driver's license. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a state security guard license. 
  • Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours and compliance inspections in varied weather conditions. 
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations. 
  • Ability to work without restrictions and limitations. 
  • Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public. 
  • Capability of following and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders, policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and can compose written and oral reports. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment: courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities. 
  • Ability to maintain poise and self-control during potential emergencies and unexpected situations that may involve mental and physical stress such as disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations. 
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles, with a cross-cultural perspective. 
  • Concisely and accurately prepares and writes narratives of incidents and other written reports. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in methods and techniques of securing and controlling detainees by following required training, policy and procedure. 
  • Possesses a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the DHS ICE National Detention Standards.
  • Must pass a writing, spelling and basic math test to qualify.

Physical Demands:

  • Always maintain physical fitness standards and proficiency with any special equipment assigned and used while employed on this contract. 
  • This position requires the candidate to maintain physical fitness standards and must be able to pass and maintain required physical testing requirements and standards which includes: 
  • Must be able to lift heavy object up to 50lbs frequently and up to 70lbs occasionally. 
  • Must be able to push a wheelchair bound individual weighing up to 300 lbs and helping individual in and out of chair. 
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, twisting, reaching overhead and climb stairs, ladders and slopes periodically. 
  • Strictly maintain physical fitness standards for law enforcement related position throughout your employment under this contract.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend and reach for extended periods of time. 

Pay and Benefits:

  • Hourly Rate: $27.97 during training period.  After training, hourly rate increases to $32.28.
