Responsibilities- Maintains oversight of the packaging and crating, scheduling, and tracking operations for all outbound freight from NASA MSFC; supervises the receiving, inspection, and acceptance processing of inbound freight; and coordinates delivery of inbound freight to the MSFC customer from the Central Receiving Office.
- Responsible for the oversight of the MSFC mail service operations.

Leads, coaches, and develops department personnel to meet contract requirements and performance metrics. - Responsible for all outbound freight being fully compliant with all federal and state regulations; ensures all hazardous materials are packed and certified for shipment in accordance with 49 CFR, and International Air Transport Association (IATA) for air freight; and ensures successful international shipments.
- Ensures all outbound freight is shipped to customer specification and on-time, to include but not exclusive to overnight, dedicated shipment, white glove service, and oversize load shipments.
- Responsible for supervising the receiving and acceptance of Government-owned and Contractor-acquired inbound freight. This includes the physical screening for damage and condition, security screening, processing shortages, researching recipients, sorting, and processing Purchase Orders, credit card orders, overnight inbound freight, inbound hazardous freight, temperature sensitive freight, and other inbound freight.
- Coordinates the off-loading of oversize or unique loads with MSFC Heavy Lift Services.
- Supports direct deliveries to the customer in lieu of processing through Central Receiving.
- Coordinates processed inbound freight with the Distribution Team for delivery to customers on MSFC.
- Responsible for the oversight of the co-located MSFC mail services team.
- Must possess planning and organizational skills; assist in development and fully execute approved pre-task plans; develop, maintain, and implement local management controls and desktop procedures; and work to meet required schedules and deadlines.
- Provide leadership for continued improvement in efficiency and quality.
- Able to develop and enhance relationships with subcontractors, co-workers, other departments’ personnel, customers, and technical monitors (auditors).
Qualifications- The position requires a bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university and minimum two years of relevant experience; or an associate’s degree and six years relevant experience; or a minimum of ten years’ relevant work experience without a degree.
- U.S. Citizenship is required; must also be able to satisfy federal government requirement for access to government information; having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
- Must pass a background investigation and be granted access/clearance to Marshall Space Flight Center; will also be required to undergo and pass a drug test prior to commencing work.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license compliant with the Real ID Act.
Has experience with 49 CFR and IATA certified hazardous materials and dangerous goods shipments; active certifications for each are preferred.
Must possess mobility to work in a warehouse setting and to use standard office equipment. - Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, sit for long periods.
- Experienced using Microsoft Office Professional applications, and knowledge of supporting databases (e.g., NASA specific databases, Maximo, SAP, Parcel Tracker) a plus.
- Must be an effective communicator, both oral and written.
