About this role

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is looking to hire two (2) 5-axis CNC Programming Machinist IV to work in Panama City, Florida.  You will provide support to Naval Surface Warfare Service (NSWC) for the Machine Shop.

Responsibilities

  • Perform machine shop operations such as sawing, turning, milling, grinding, and heat treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Manufacture parts from castings, forgings, and other raw stocks made of various metals, metal alloys, and other materials to specifications of drawings per the customers’ work order. This may include compliance with military specifications or military standards cited within the drawings or specifications.
  • Use various Tool and Die Maker's hand tools and precision measuring instrument, working to very close tolerances, heat-treating metal parts and finished tools and dies to achieve required qualities, and fitting and assembling parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances.
  • Operate various types of conventional and CNC machine tools and their attachments to perform machine operations.
  • Provide training in Mastercam or available programming software as required to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Work involves planning, reading blueprints, interpreting drawings and other types of specifications such as sketches or models of parts to fabricate a product.
  • Program the cutter path using Mastercam programming software, figure feeds and speeds rates, select and shape metal cutting tools and inserts.
  • Perform precision handwork to fit, finish, and assemble machined parts and equipment.
  • Use precision measuring devices and determine what equipment is necessary to complete the task.
  • Provide recommendations for modernized technologies or when machining issues arise.
  • Specialize in programming CNC machines, which involve writing and editing G-code. 
  • Comply with Shop policy concerning regular work area cleanliness and weekly cleanups.
  • Receive written work assignments from the Machine Shop Work Leader or designated representative.
  • Responsible for receiving and reviewing blueprints and materials for possible discrepancies, errors or omissions that will be necessary to complete assembly.
  • Be familiar with shop related math, knowledge of metals, blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerance Standards as deemed necessary by the Branch Head, Code E, or designated representative.

Qualifications

  • US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a CUI Clearance.
  • Highschool degree.
  • One (1) or more years' experience with CNC lathe machine including:
    • Experience with 5-axis simultaneous operations programing
    • Experience in CNC Programing skills, operation and setup of fixtures
    • Programming experience in CNC and computer aided machining software
  • Ability to utilize Feature Cam, Master CAM, CAD/CAM software to generate machine instructions in symbolic language to direct numerical control machines to regulate movement of machine along cutting path.
  • Navy Crane certification and Forklift certification.
  • Basic conventional machinist knowledge and experience.

    • Milltronics VM 30 and BR 80,
    • Samsung MCV50,
    • Bridgeport series I and II,
    • Bridgeport Easytrack.
  • HAAS VF 8, 1500SS, 750SS, and 500 SS 5-Axis vertical machining centers.
  • Milltronics Centurion 7 control.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Some lifting up to 75 pounds required.
    • Eye, hearing, and foot protection are required.
    • Constant visual awareness is necessary due to moving parts.
    • Participation and completion in all assigned training requirements.
