Database Administration SpecialistJob Description
Key Responsibilities
Database Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance: Responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, patching, and maintaining MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server database systems in both on-premise and/or cloud environments (e.g., AWS RDS for MySQL/SQL Server, Azure SQL Database).
Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Continuously monitor database performance, analyze bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies for queries, indexes, and database configurations to maximize efficiency.
Backup & Recovery: Design, implement, and regularly test backup and recovery strategies to ensure rapid and complete data restoration in any scenario.
Security & Access Control: Manage user accounts, define roles, and implement various security measures to protect data from unauthorized access, ensuring compliance with organizational security policies.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize impact on system operations.
Database Design & Improvement: Collaborate with development teams to review and provide recommendations on schema design, indexing, and database structure for optimal performance and scalability.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including architectural diagrams, operational procedures, and user guides.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator (DBA).
- Strong expertise in managing MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Deep understanding of relational database concepts, SQL, normalization, and indexing.
- Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
- Skilled in performance analysis, database tuning, and reading query execution plans.
- Familiarity with and practical experience in Database Backup & Recovery, Replication, and High Availability (HA) concepts for both MySQL and SQL Server.
- Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix (for MySQL) and Windows Server (for SQL Server) operating systems relevant to database administration.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, and a strong desire for continuous learning.
- Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS for MySQL/SQL Server, Azure SQL Database) will be a significant advantage.
