The Air Canada Maintenance (ACM) Engineering team is looking for a dynamic individual with a solid Mechanical Engineering background specializing in aircraft systems. The candidate should have a demonstrated strong sense of initiative, creativity and commitment to continuous process improvement to work in a team environment. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering & Reliability - ACM.

The Manager Engineering - Systems position provides leadership and direction to a group of systems engineers supporting the Air Canada Line Maintenance operation and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) network. The responsibilities extend beyond the team of direct reports and reach into the Aircraft programs, Vendor management, Maintenance Operations Control, Supply Chain Management, and Flight Operations Engineering organizations providing added support.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the technical, airworthiness and operational standards for Air Canada’s aircraft systems, Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) / components are established and current for each Aircraft type.
  • Ensure the maintenance programs are up to date and in place to meet expected performance levels both operationally & at the lowest operating cost while maintaining reliability and ETOP’s requirements as applicable.
  • Support development of the aircraft reliability budget .
  • Ensure the teams' timely review and disposition of all aircraft Technical Documentation: Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRMs), etc.
  • Lead the development of all projects required to maintain airworthiness, improve fleet performance and lower operating costs; Mandatory Airworthiness Requirement Embodiment Plan (MAREP), and Authorization for Commitment (AFC))
  • Support the reporting requirements associated with Reliability Work Group Meetings (RWGs) Maintenance Review Boards (MRBs), ETOPS requirements, and any other such review meeting.
  • Liaise as required with TCCA on incidents or accidents caused by malfunction or operational deviations.
  • Support corrective action & risk assessment exercises to follow up on events.
  • Liase with Original Equipment Manufacturers’ (OEM’s) to keep current with industry issues including proposed corrective actions.
  • Ensure team provides adequate 24/7 in support of on-wing systems issues to minimize operational delays and cancellations.
  • Work with MRO and third party vendors to develop standards for material salvage together with Parts Manufacturer Approval/Delegate Engineering Representative (PMA/DER) programs to reduce costs.


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering preferred, or equivalent qualifications acceptable to be eligible to become an Approved Engineer Organization (AEO) Delegate.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in aerospace industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English – French is an asset.
  • Sound judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to deal effectively with Internal and external Customers at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of most commonly used PC software.
  • A current or prior Transport Canada recognized delegation (DE 571/521) in the aircraft systems specialty.
  • Experience managing a professional team of Engineers.
  • Familiarity with Air Canada engineering processes.
  • Experience in handling technical aspects of maintenance repairs of aircraft.
  • Experience in handling and troubleshooting aircraft systems problems.
  • Knowledge of Air Canada computer systems.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
