The Aeroplan Currency Management team is responsible to manage the profitability of the Aeroplan accrual and rewards portfolio. The team is therefore constantly developing levers and program constructs allowing the optimization of the Aeroplan contribution to revenue and profitability of Air Canada, while delivering great value to our members

As a Data Analyst R&D, you need to be passionate about using data and your analytic skills to guide business decisions. You will learn to be an expert in the performance of ticket sales, points issuance and the overall travel & loyalty industry. You will also have to identify and develop potential improvements to actual and future way the Air Canada incentivize customer behavior through earn of points using different methods (e.g: data mining, forecasting and visualization). You will have the responsibility of translating these findings into high value, easy to understand stories that will be presented to department leaders in the pursuit of maximization of the profitability of Air Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop data models and analytical solutions to improve pricing capabilities and optimize the team’s productivity.
  • Create analytics and data pipelines from proof of concept to production ready tools.
  • Develop advanced knowledge of all data assets and processes relevant to core business support.
  • Built the foundation of tools useful to drive effectiveness in action undertaken to optimize a pricing of $1B+ of redemption expenses.
  • Responsible for the QA of tools developed by the R&D team ensuring risks are minimized when deployed in PROD.
  • Responsible for investigating and creating fixes onto the flight pricing pipeline and tools when issues are found.
  • Design predictive models to forecast the impact of bonus points and promotions on flight bookings and overall revenue.
  • Work closely with Revenue Management, Loyalty and Marketing teams to align incentive strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Produce ad hoc analysis and support of quantification of business initiative impact of financial KPIs and associated risk assessments through financial modeling.
  • Understands and analyzes complex business problems, then formulates data-driven hypotheses to drive business value.
  • Defines innovative data solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
  • Support quantification of impacts and risks of product parameter management and marketing activities using various forms of interrelated subjects like mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, behavioral economics and computer science.
  • Represent the team’s interests in corporate initiatives, making sure profitability levers and efficiency of processes are taken into consideration.
    Provide value-added support to other departments by performing various analyses on redemption data.
  • Use data visualization techniques to disseminate the discoveries to other departments in an interesting manner.
  • Build knowledge base of insights for proper internal dissemination.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Business, Business Intelligence or a related field – master’s degree is an asset.
  • Thrilled to tackle business challenges and identify new opportunities for growth
  • Advanced knowledge and concrete experience coding in SQL and python
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and/or Power BI is mandatory
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to highlight insights when presenting findings (communicate complex concepts into simple ones)
  • Particular attention to data and code quality
  • Mathematics and statistics skillsets including predictive modeling, time series, optimization techniques, machine learning, etc. is an asset
  • Knowledge of the travel and loyalty industry is strong asset
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while paying attention to details
  • Positive thinking and sense of humor
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
