Introduction:
The Aga Khan University Medical College (MC) was established in 1983, as a part of the Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. It works closely with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University Hospital to produce excellence in educational programs and medical practice.

The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM) is a part of the MC. The Aga Khan University (AKU) has partnered with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) - an internationally renowned Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, in developing and evolving The Aga Khan University Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM). The Centre has a state-of-the-art facility for multi-disciplinary researchers to undertake cutting-edge research on stem cell and regenerative medicine. CRM nurtures young researchers (scientists and clinical scientists) in an environment that fosters learning and innovation.

CRM is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate, Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM).

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Manager and Manager CRM Lab and Core facility, and the Director Research & Teaching Laboratories, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • independently operating one or more core facilities, including Pathology, FACS/Flow Cytometry
  • following (where applicable) and/or develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to the core facilities.
  • undertaking regular weekly maintenance of all the equipment in the core lab and assisting in quarterly preventive maintenance with Bio-Medical Engineering Department
  • conducting daily, weekly, and monthly inventory of consumables required for the smooth operation of core/s
  • assisting and advising faculty and researchers in designing their projects
  • logging and recording all the communications, transactions, and maintenance schedules systematically and orderly
  • maintain database of all projects
  • preparing periodic and annual budgets for the profitable operation of the core including cost recovery and projections for a successful business plan
  • developing and maintaining inventory of all projects, equipment, consumables, service record, SOPs,
    manuals etc.
  • presenting to the faculty and CRM researchers the utility of the facility, challenges, and solutions
  • conducting training workshops and seminars in concepts, methodology, and operations of core facility
  • serving as backup to operate other research cores as and when needed.


Requirements:

You should have:

  • minimal master’s degree 
  • one year of experience in the field of biological science research (Fresh candidates can also apply)
  • experience in operating one or more core facilities
  • strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks assigned by the Assistant Manager and Manager, CRM Lab
  • excellent in computer usage with command over Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written).
