Summary

The Network Engineer will play a critical role in designing, supporting, and maintaining complex network infrastructures that enable virtual learning environments, classroom technologies, and secure enterprise operations. This position operates in a fast‑paced environment with tight deadlines and requires strong collaboration across internal teams and customer stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design and support virtual learning network infrastructure to meet specialized course requirements.

  • Design and support classroom network infrastructure tailored to the needs of each instructional environment.

  • Troubleshoot network issues and recommend performance‑enhancing modifications while ensuring compliance with all security policies.

  • Implement STIG guidance, harden systems, and maintain secure network environments across all assigned platforms.

  • Collaborate with team members and provide assistance within their primary areas of responsibility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education, and experience

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible network systems engineering experience. Four additional years may substitute for a degree (total of 12 years).

  • Experience with packet capture and network analysis tools.

  • Experience implementing security measures, managing firewalls, and monitoring for threats to protect data and infrastructure.

  • Experience with Cisco hardware and operating systems.

  • Experience with monitoring solutions and datacenter operations.

  • Familiarity with installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers.

  • Hands‑on experience with routers, switches, encryption technologies, and firewalls.

  • Knowledge of applying security patches, updates, and service packs to maintain system integrity.

  • Knowledge of monitoring solutions.

  • Proficiency with packet capture and network analysis tools.

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, network architecture, and operating systems.

  • VMware, vSphere, and vCenter experience strongly desired.

  • Working knowledge of Linux platforms and Windows Server environments.

Certifications

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required.

  • Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification required.

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining awareness of team impacts.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across servers, networks, and applications.

  • Awareness of datacenter operations and network‑based server systems.

  • Experience with network security principles, threats, and vulnerabilities.

  • Experience with Palo Alto hardware and operating systems (Level 2).

  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as Confluence, Jira, and Bitbucket.

  • High attention to detail, enthusiasm, and initiative.

  • Understanding of Software‑Defined Networking and micro‑segmentation.

  • Understanding of VXLAN and logical networking concepts.

  • Scripting knowledge (Python, Perl, etc.).

  • Strong analytical and root‑cause problem‑solving skills.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends for maintenance activities.

Salary Range: $146,000 - $182,000

The AV pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Determination of official compensation or salary relies on several factors including, but not limited to, level of position, job responsibilities, geographic location, scope of relevant work experience, educational background, certifications, contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, alignment with local internal equity as well as alignment with market data.
