What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

 

The EHS program advisor ensures that all aspects of Aecon’s EHS systems elements are coordinated and updated among EHS personnel and integrated into the project governance.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Manage and maintain third-party EHS data, contractor information, and EHS information systems, including policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and continually improve EHS management systems and subcontractor prequalification processes.
  • Promote a proactive health, safety, and environmental culture across all levels of employees through engagement, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare EHS reports and statistics for departmental use, identifying trends and inconsistencies to propose improvements.
  • Provide training and guidance on EHS standards, best practices and programs.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to internal and external safety standards, legal regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits, and hazard identification, recommending and overseeing corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and implementing health and safety programs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for EHS management system revisions and improvements.
  • Support planning and execution of safety initiatives and assist in requirements gathering when enhancing EHS information systems.
  • Maintain documentation for regulatory audits and stay current with evolving health and safety legislation.
  • Maintain test and development environments for EHS information systems.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 5+ years working in an EHS or Safety specific role.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, in programs related to Human Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Experience with EHS Management Systems in the Construction industry (ISO, COR) preferred.
  • Experience working with users to gather requirements, supporting application purchase and / or enhancements.
  • Awareness of safety management software for tracking policies, procedures, incidents and audit results.
  • Prepare communication, publication and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Ability to detect trending and inconsistencies in reports and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with SAP processes is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information within a team environment, with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A willingness to grow business acumen and professionalism within a professional EHS Team.
  • Must be well-organized, and comfortable with shifting priorities.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work independently to develop and review procedures.
  • Must have problem solving skills with ability to analyze and recommend solutions on problems.
  • Able to interact with subject matter experts, and organizational leaders to make amendments.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Able to travel to remote work sites.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use personal protective wear correctly while walking on construction sites.

Pay Range: $85,000 -  $110,000 

 

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
