As part of our Aecon Utilities sector, Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) is a division focusing on engineering design, project and quality management, employing over 100 engineers, technicians, projects managers, and clerical staff.

 

The Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) team plays a pivotal role in supporting construction through in-house engineering expertise. AUE is dedicated to enhancing project outcomes by integrating value-added quality management assurance programs that meet and exceed client expectations.

What is the Opportunity? 

 

Aecon Utilities Engineering is seeking a Project Designer to join the Electrical division in our U.S. operations. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Designer will be responsible for all facets of design for our existing and perspective Utility clients.

 

This position is intended for near-future deployment.

 

What You'll Do Here:

 

  • Complete design calculations and drawings that satisfy all the applicable code and regulation requirements
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules, estimates and construction packages
  • Conduct surveys and worksite visits of project area 
  • Assist with the preparation of reports regarding the status and results of completed and in-progress design projects
  • Prepare technical reports as required by the client and project team
  • Utilize various design software and tools 
  • Liaises with clients, contractors, field staff
  • Performs other duties as required

 

What You Bring to the Team:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) 
  • Registration as an E.I.T. with the P.E. is an asset
  • Experience with DTE specifications and standards is an asset
  • SpatialNet experience is required
  • CET certified or CET eligible is preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proven people and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals 
  • Strong computer skills required – experience with Auto CAD software, Microstation, and 3-D software an asset
  • Ability to travel for projects
  • Proven ability to take initiative and leadership 
  • Strong problem solving skills
