Requirements:
• Associate’s degree or higher from a dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
• Active and unrestricted license to practice as a dental hygienist in the state of Vermont.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a full-time dental hygienist.
• BLS/CPR (AHA)
• Must possess a current unrestricted driver’s license in the United States and ability to drive a mobile dental clinic (commercial driver’s license not required)
Responsibilities:
• Conduct dental cleanings, including scaling and root planing, and provide preventive treatments like fluoride applications.
• Take and process dental x-rays, ensuring images are of diagnostic quality.
• Perform patient assessments including medical/dental history, vital signs, and periodontal evaluations.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and overall dental health.
• Maintain infection control standards, ensuring equipment sterilization and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
• Assist the dentist during examinations and treatment procedures.
• Record all patient care in the VA’s electronic health record system.
• Provide emergency dental care and manage urgent dental needs.
