The Project Engineer will ensure the effective coordination and control of Mechanical and Piping Engineering Works for the Alkimos Desalination Plant through activities of technical, engineering, inspection, scheduling, planning, survey, procurement and quality control based on Alkimos Project standards. The Project Engineer is responsible in assisting the Senior Project Engineer to ensure the safe and successful completion of the project on schedule, within budget and to the specified quality.

The Project The project includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels, seawater intake system, a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, groundwater system, drinking water storage and pump system, supported by civil, electrical and bulk earthworks.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections, support safe work practices, and promote wellbeing across the project.
  • Review designs for accurate quantity take-offs, prepare work packages, evaluate quotations, and select suppliers in line with procurement guidelines.
  • Create method statements, temporary works briefs, and sketches; review designs for constructability and collaborate on process improvements.
  • Analyse schedules, manage logistics, track progress, assess risks, and ensure alignment with project milestones using planning tools.
  • Monitor QA processes, manage subcontractor documentation, forecast financial outcomes, and apply construction techniques to meet project goals.
  • Utilize digital tools such as GIS and industry-standard software to plan and review works and encourage their use within the team.
  • Ensure timely closure of Workpacks and NCRs, verify site works against specifications, and maintain proper inspection and testing protocols.
  • Compile forecasts, maintain activity diaries, review actual costs, submit accruals, and monitor daily site productivity for budget alignment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum Bachelor of Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ engineering experience
  • Ability to conduct safety and environmental inspections and implement safe work practices.
  • Experience in reviewing designs, performing quantity take-offs, and managing procurement processes.
  • Skilled in developing construction method statements, temporary works briefs, and efficient construction techniques.
  • Proficient in project scheduling, risk assessment, and progress tracking using tools like P6 and Aphex.
  • Knowledge of QA processes, subcontractor documentation management, and financial forecasting.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools such as GIS platforms (e.g., Propeller, Revisto) and industry software.
  • Competence in verifying site works against specifications and managing inspection and testing protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills for cost control, productivity tracking, and budget alignment.
