Job Summary

To ensure that trade finance transactions are processed timely & accurately under proper control. Usage of resources including human resources available is used in an efficient manner.
Assist in resolving any complaints/ Incidents
received.
High focus on control on transactions.

Job Description

Trade Processing
Check and supervise the work of subordinate staff in order to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Take accountability for monitoring and processing of trade transactions
Ensure that resources are well allocated in order to ensure a seamless workflow of transactions through the day.
Verification and authorization of trade transactions
Ensure that customers are advised that documents received &/ trade transactions have reached maturity and if applicable request their authority to pay
Ensure data integrity on the bank’s system.
Ensure approval from the Corporate Managers/Retail RM received before effecting any trade transaction.
Ensure booking of currencies done and position sheet sent to Treasury
Ensure outstanding payments advised to Treasury Operations
Ensure settlement of trade loan effected on due date
Attend to Bank/Customer queries
Authorise delivery of documents to customers
Provide guidance/ advice to customers/relationship managers as regard to Trade Finance products in case of need
Record and follow up of complaints and ensure prompt resolution
Abide to Group Policy and maintain a high standard of control within the business
Comply with SLA in place
Monitor diary reports and takes appriopriate action for long outsatnding items
Ensure reportings are done accurately and timeously
Assist the Trade Finance team leader whenever required.
Ensure queue monitoring of various trade system for self and team.


Risk Management
Keep abreast of all operating instructions, standards and procedures
Initiate remedial actions where loopholes in operations are identified
Maintain the highest standard of internal controls and operating procedures in line with Group policy
Ensure compliance with operations standards and Assurance requirements
Maintain integrity of the database at all times
Engage in CPA and snap check program


Staff Management
Responsible for managing subordinate staff activity on a day to day basis and resourcing work flow requirements. Identify appropriate training requirements for self and team, managing personnel development, recommending attachments and monitoring staff development and progress.
Supervise and motivate staff to create team spirit and ensure quality support and service to clients
To undertake reviews of staff performance on a quarterly basis
To assist in putting in place a robust succession plan
To ensure job rotation to provide job satisfaction and reduce risks of fraud
To coach staff on Trade Finance products to achieve targets
To provide feedback to Team Leader
 

Miscellaneous & Teamwork
To assist colleagues in the Trade Finance Dept
To assist and reconcile monthly extracts & reports before submission of returns in a timely manner

Knowledge, Expertise and Experience
Detailed knowledge of Trade products, such as letters of credits, foreign collections ,short term financing of trade and trade guarantees
A detailed knowledge of Absa’s policies and procedures related to Foreign Exchange.
A sound knowledge of risk relating to trade products
Understanding the components of operational risks in the Trade Finance environment
Knowledge of International Banking
Knowledge of International payment system
Practical experience of current systems and their impact on operations and operational working practices
Good understanding of the bank’s products and services knowledge of relevant processes and procedures.

• Knowledge of International Chamber of commerce (ICC) Publications

  • UCP 600 for Documentary credits

  • Incoterms 2000

  • International standard Banking practice (ISBP) for Documentary credits

  • URR 525 for reimbursements from bank to bank under Documentary credits

  • URC 522 for collections

  • URDG 458

Knowledge of relevant legislation e.g. KYC, Money Laundering, sanctions & AML Scan-It sanctioning
Fully conversant with Swift message Type
Knowledge of fraud in International Trade

Education

Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC): Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
