Packaging Engineer

Job Description Summary

Develops, processes, tests, and selects standard materials made from metals, ceramics, plastics, semiconductors, and composites to meet mechanical, electrical, and chemical product requirements used in cost-effective manufacturing of a product.Creates new and/or improved materials that are used to develop most new or improved products. Materials are derived from metals, ceramics, plastics, semiconductors, and composites that meet certain mechanical, electrical, and chemical requirements.Researches properties of materials and new ways to combine them; tests and analyzes materials under different conditions, and investigates reasons for component or structural failures.Develops prototypes for new products and product components using new or improved materials.Helps design and develop new or improved product manufacturing processes that use new materials.

Job Description:

•Reviews new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost.
•Analyzes product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
•Conducts or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality.
•Monitors material performance and evaluate material deterioration.
•Evaluates technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives.
•Modifies properties of metal alloys, using thermal and mechanical treatments.
•Determines appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.
•Replicates the characteristics of materials and their components with computers.
•All other duties as assigned.
