Senior Manager, Product Engineering

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

This role is responsible for definition, design and advancement of the overall enterprise architecture for all AAA Washington platforms, systems, and applications. Collaborates with senior management and stakeholders, and leads a team of architects, software developers and engineers to deliver customizations and enhancements to our platforms and applications in accordance with architectural standards. Oversees the entire software development lifecycle from ideation to delivery, ensuring quality, performance, security, and DevOps standards meet the company’s standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with project management to inform the vision, strategy, capabilities, and roadmaps for our software products, platforms, and enterprise architecture. 

  • Collaborate with the Project Management Office to establish and follow standards and practices for effective and safe delivery of product, platform and application enhancements. 

  • Establish and enforce best practices, processes, and standards for agile software engineering, including code review, testing, documentation, and Development Operations (DevOps). 

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of Data Management and Architecture, including data pipelines (data ingestion, processing, storage, analysis, and deployment), data storage, APIs, AI & ML models, data streaming, reporting, and analytics. Ensure data quality, security, privacy, governance, and compliance throughout the data lifecycle.  

  • Oversee the architecture, design, customization and delivery of our software products and enterprise cloud platforms ensuring that they meet all functional, architectural, and compliance requirements. 

  • Evaluation of new technologies, tools, and frameworks that can advance the technical architecture or features of our products. 

  • Provide expert technical support for our strategic platform partnerships and innovation initiatives. 

  • Advise and guide IT, Digital, and business teams responsible for systems and platform management and administration ensuring compliance with architectural, development operations, testing, and delivery standards and practices.

  • Collaborate with other AAA Clubs and AAA Inc. to help advance the overall enterprise architecture and capabilities of the AAA Federation. 

  • Contributes to a positive team dynamic through respectful interactions, positive contributions, and active collaboration to achieve department and organizational goals.

  • Incorporates AAA’s vision, mission and values in day-to-day activities and behaviors; guides and motivates others to remain committed to AAA’s vision mission and values.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct supervision to all architects, software development staff, and lead engineers.

  • Responsible for developing people, improving processes, reducing costs, monitoring quality, delivering results against established objectives, and ensuring a high level of service to internal and external customers.

  • Manages assigned employees by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, developing, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning monitoring, appraising, and reviewing employee job contributions; maintaining compensation, resolving problems, and implementing change.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in full stack software engineering

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in leading software development using agile processes such as Scrum

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience with cloud platform administration (IaaS, PaaS, or Saas).

  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience in IT Management role with at least 3 years in senior-level management

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with DevOps tools and processes (e.g. Azure DevOps, Terraform, GitHub Actions)

  • Experience with relational databases (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL)

  • Experience with Data Management platforms and processes (e.g. SQL Server Suite, Tableau, MDM, Governance)

  • Experience with enterprise cloud platforms (e.g. Salesforce / Mulesoft, Microsoft Dynamics ERP)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Thorough understanding of software development principles, architecture, and best practices.

  • Familiar with a wide range of technologies and have expertise in one or more areas, such as .NET, Azure, or other cloud platforms, databases, and front-end frameworks. 

  • Ability to understand the business context in which software solutions are developed and align the technical architecture and design decisions with the company's strategic goals, objectives, and budgets. 

  • Ability to manage complex enterprise projects, including the planning, execution, and monitoring of their success.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Highly effective facilitation and project management skill sets.

  • Experience successfully collaborating professionally and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to establish, nurture, and optimize key internal and external partnerships and influence organizational change.

 

SALARY:

  • Hiring Range: $137,598 -  $165,036

  • Eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company performance

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical environment is typical of a standard office space. It requires the employee to work inside for the duration of work. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, sitting for more than 50% of the time. This position will require occasionally moving about inside the office to access equipment, cabinets, etc. May work around office equipment which could be noisy, such as copiers and fax machines.
