About this role
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Engineer, Enterprise Database Services to join our team at RHB Bank. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of our enterprise RDBMS environment, ensuring operational efficiency, data integrity, and system security. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support mission-critical systems while maintaining compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
What you will be doing
Install all new RDBMS software and create databases in accordance with recommended database management standards, policies, and best practices to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and operational efficiency of the database environment.
Perform RDBMS patches or bundled patches in a timely manner based on vendor guidelines to maintain security and top performance.
Monitor, review, and evaluate system storage requirements, including RAW disk management, and develop capacity plans to forecast database growth.
Monitor and identify performance hot spots and manage database data files to optimize I/O load distribution.
Review, analyze, and manage all RDBMS errors with proper logging to service providers, following up through to resolution and deployment.
Conduct periodic analysis of database statistics and performance metrics to prevent degradation and resource contention.
Ensure compliance with established database standards, checklists, and processes in alignment with Group Security, BNM, and ISO/IEC 20000 (ITSM) requirements.
Perform database backups to ensure data recovery aligns with business requirements in the event of a disaster.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive RDBMS documentation, procedures, and operational manuals for effective planning, control, and standardization.
Provide 24×7 on-call DBA support for Group RDBMS on a rotation basis, resolving system anomalies promptly.
What we’re looking for
Minimum of 3 years of experience in database maintenance and administration, particularly with Oracle and MSSQL in an enterprise environment.
Degree in Computer Science, Computer Software/Systems Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology, Mathematics, or Operational Research.
Deep technical knowledge of various RDBMS and operating system architectures with strong troubleshooting capabilities.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Experience working across multiple operating systems such as Windows, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, and Linux.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Experience with other DBMS or RDBMS platforms is an added advantage.
