This position is accountable for ensuring the safe, efficient operation of engines, motors, and equipment aboard their assigned dredge. The incumbent will also ensure that needed equipment or engine repairs are provided in a timely fashion to prevent downtime. This position will work closely with the Dredge Captain and Deck Captain and Chief Engineer in the performance of these duties.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 6 months - 1-year dredging experience is required with prior experience as a 2nd Engineer desirable. Prior knowledge and ability should include the operation of marine engines, equipment, gauges, instruments, etc. The incumbent must be able to work 2 weeks on and 1 week off and work 12-hour days. In addition, the incumbent must be capable of obtaining a Tankerman license within one year.
The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of the dredging operation; be an effective supervisor; and have the ability to interface well with other employees on the dredge.
The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation device, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
