About this role

Overview

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, and the Manager or Director Nursing, has the responsibility to perform clinical apheresis procedures.

Responsibilities

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the duties and responsibilities performed within this classification.   • Performs all phases of therapeutic apheresis procedures and documentation, per OneBlood protocol following physician’s orders.
  • Ensures safe and appropriate care of patient in accordance with applicable regulations and HIPAA guidelines
  • Administers blood and blood products, utilizing apheresis equipment and following appropriate protocol
  • Performs apheresis procedures as needed in emergency and on-call situations
  • Coordinates closely with nurses at various hospitals to arrange therapeutic apheresis treatments in conjunction with other required therapy to allow continuity of patient care
  • Assess patient status relative to therapeutic apheresis, prior to and during procedures, and evaluate patient medication for compatibility and safety of apheresis procedure and determine when to contact the physician.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:

Current and valid Florida RN license, current BLS CPR certification, and a valid and clear driver’s license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to effectively obtain peripheral access, utilize dialysis catheters, fistulas, grafts or power ports
  • Ability to read and interpret technical procedures and patient related documentation
  • Ability to document on hospital records procedural information and patient tolerance
  • Ability to effectively discuss procedures and medical related issues within scope with patient, families, nurses, and physicians
  • Operates company vehicles in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Ability to speak, write, read, and understand English
  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to commute with personal transportation.

Tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. 

 

Functions are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as inclement weather, atmospheric elements and pathogenic substances. Performance of this job could expose the employee to blood-borne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
