Job Description:
Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is seeking staff anesthesiologists with an Obstetric-fellowship or equivalent in our growing academic department. The obstetrics service cares for approximately 5,000 women per year, including high-risk deliveries and transfers from neighboring hospitals and is a placenta accreta spectrum referral center. We also have a perioperative volume of more than 40,000 cases per year, including gynecology, neurosurgery, major vascular, thoracic, orthopedics, and ambulatory. Clinical time would be divided between the general operating room time and Labor & Delivery assignments. In-house OB call is responsible only for the Labor & Delivery unit with a separate call team for the operating rooms.
We have top-ranked obstetric anesthesia fellowship and resident training programs with opportunities available to participate in multiple education programs and initiatives. There is also an opportunity to collaborate in our ongoing basic, translational and clinical research programs.
This position holds an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School commensurate with credentials and experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide compassionate preoperative, operative and postoperative care to patients.
Develop and implement comprehensive patient care plans.
Make informed decisions about diagnostic and therapeutic interventions based on patient information, preferences, scientific evidence and clinical judgement.
Develop and carry out patient management plans, counsel and educate patients and family members.
Participation in the education of obstetric anesthesia fellows, anesthesia residents and medical students.
Required Qualifications:
Fellowship trained in OB anesthesia or equivalent

Skills and Competencies:
Ability to provide full spectrum of anesthesia to the pregnant patient.
Placement of neurxial anesthesia, spinal injections and epidural catheters.
Experience with Point-of-care ultrasound for procedures and patient assessment.
Obstetric management of high-risk pregnancies.
Proficiency in discussing pros and cons of various treatment options with patients, surgeons and ancillary staff or family members.
Adhere to ethical principles, and sensitivity to diverse patient populations.

Pay Range:
$420,000 - $440,000The base pay range reflects what Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (HMFP) reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation within this range may be determined based on several factors, including academic appointment, work experience, specialty training, geography of work location, anticipated productivity, FTE basis, and role expectations. In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which may include bonuses for productivity and quality HMFP also offers a comprehensive and generous employee benefits program to eligible employees, including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as retirement plan(s) with employer contributions.
