Responsibilities

The Commercial Real Estate Banking Officer is responsible to meet the commercial servicing needs specific to the Bank's activities with commercial real estate financing.   This individual is viewed as a trusted advisor to clients with the knowledge to manage transactions specific to multi-family, industrial, office and retail commercial real estate.  This person will focus on areas of commercial real estate to develop a loan portfolio but also deposits and other ancillary services offered by the Bank.  As part of the overall Commercial Banking Department, this individual will also be responsible to meet the commercial service needs of all Commercial Bank customers which includes; responding to inquiries or requests for information; maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of duties to meet the commercial sales and services needs of commercial real estate customers as follows:
    • Maintains/develops business relationships with present customers to enhance opportunities to cross-sell other Bank services and obtain new business.
    • Establishes an extensive network of business contracts, community leaders, prospect opportunities and referral sources, in order to generate revenue.
    • Maximize profitability through the maintenance of high quality loan portfolio, responsible for relationship review and overall relationship profitability.
    • Monitors individual sales performance versus objectives on a regular basis; discusses performance with appropriate supervisor on a frequent basis.
    • Exercise credit judgment consistent with the Commercial Bank Department's goals; monitor and evaluate credit worthiness of clients.
    • Provides sales information on a timely basis in order that this information may be included as part of customer service and sales performance reports. 
    • Serves as a member of the bank's sales team, e.g. Branch Manager; makes group sales calls where these types of calls will improve the opportunity for new business development.
  • Provides quality service to customers, whether internal or external.
  • Demonstrates cooperative efforts in working with other departments and within own department.
  • Jointly establishes annual quantitative customer service and sales objectives with assigned supervisor; this activity to be integrated with the Commercial Banking Department's annual operating plan.
  • Complies with established operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the bank's adherence to outside regulatory requirements. 
  • Communicates with management and staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities. 
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from other bank personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Monitors and reviews accounts for appropriate risk rating to avoid risk rating changes by Loan Review, the OCC or other loan review processes. 
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of, and demonstrate ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to this position, ensure ongoing adherence to pertinent policies, procedures and internal controls, and meet all job-specific requirements in a timely fashion.

 


Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree and Minimum of 6 years of Commercial RE Financing experience at a Financial Institution. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Skills: 

  • Exceptional business development skills with the ability to build and expend trusting customer relationships and partnerships.  
  • Knowledge of banking regulations, lending policies, procedures and techniques and well demonstrated understanding of loan risk factors a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of the commercial real estate industry (office, Multi-family, Retail, Industrial)
  • Superior underwriting and credit administration skills
  • Experience managing large construction projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage several high priority transactions simultaneously
  • Builds and maintain strong internal relationships with team members and various business partners (Credit Administration, Special Assets, Non-Banking Subsidiaries)
