Pay Range: $16.26 - $24.38

Summary:

The Blood Bank Assistant promotes the Dak Minn Blood Bank brand at blood drives and community events as well as performs donor recruitment, education, registration, screening, and whole blood collection activities. The Blood Bank Assistant will maintain a working knowledge of donor eligibility and suitability requirements and perform quality assurance and instrument maintenance activities according to standard operating procedures. Additional duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the work area.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Promotes the Dak Minn Blood Bank brand at blood drives and community events and performs donor recruitment activities to meet established recruitment goals.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of donor suitability requirements to maximize the safety and adequacy of the blood supply. Performs donor education, registration and screening according to standard operating procedures..

  • Performs donor collection. Monitors donors during the collection process to ensure well-being of the donor while minimizing the potential for adverse events. Performs post-donation care activities and responds accordingly to relieve symptoms should an adverse event occur. Performs and documents activity according to standard operating procedure.

  • Performs and interprets quality assurance activities and equipment maintenance according to standard operating procedures. Exercises initiative and judgement when investigating, troubleshooting and resolving problems. Informs the next level of authority as necessary and documents all actions.

  • Creates and maintains complete, accurate, and legible records according to standard operating procedures and takes appropriate actions for records/donations requiring follow-up. Utilizes available technologies to record and retrieve information and completes needed documentation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) | American Heart Association (AHA) | Within 90 days of Start Date | Learning Management System

This position requires proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure effective communication in the workplace and with patients, families, and team members.
